| in her aspect and her eyes by liviapenn Fandom: Star Trek AOS Character/Pairing: Spock/Uhura Rating/Warning(s): General Wordcount: 2,100 Genre: Academy fic Summary: Elementary logic leads to an obvious conclusion. Notes: The voice of Spock here is just right, and, well, I feel like I understand the character quite a bit better after this story. And I love the Nyota we see through Spock's eyes. Excerpt: "Who are you giving poetry to?" Lieutenant Uhura asked, her expression shifting again into one of humor. More than any other emotional expression, humor was the most difficult for Spock to comprehend, in terms of its root causes. It was always difficult to think of appropriate responses. Joy, sorrow, anger, lust-- these emotions, Spock felt, were inherently self-indulgent, and were therefore easily ignored. But humor demanded to be shared. Humor required an accomplice, and Spock was never sure how to respond to that implicit demand. | comments: Leave a comment |
| Coming up orchids by ineptshieldmaid Fandom: Star Trek AOS Character/Pairing: Gen: Sulu & Gaila-centric Rating/Warning(s): General Wordcount: 1,300 Genre: Enterprise-fic Summary: A daily life snapshot: Sulu grows orchids and sleepy Orions in his greenhouse Notes: This is one of those perfect slice-of-life fics that just works - you feel like you truly know the Enterprise and her crew better at the end, and you're left with that a happy, satisfied feeling. Excerpt: 'How's Jim's little experiment working out?' Gaila regarded Kirk's shift-swapping plans with the same faint amusement as the rest of the Engineering section, especially considering that the captain had floated the possibility of rotating crewmembers out of their usual workplace for a week or two. Engineering were something of a law unto themselves: fiercely territorial and tolerant only of the whims of one Montgomery Scott. | comments: Leave a comment |
| Steady Hands by speccygeekgrrl Fandom: Star Trek AOS Character/Pairing: Spock/Sulu Rating/Warning(s): Explicit Wordcount: 2,800 Genre: Enterprise-fic Summary: An alien ritual involving hand-painting doesn't seem like that big of a deal, except that it really is, and not just for the aliens. Notes: Um, can you say hand-kink? Although, actually, having one is completely unnecessary for enjoying this story because the details of the scene are just that gorgeous, as is the developing connection between a Spock & Sulu thrust into an unexpectedly intimate encounter. And bonus points for the sweetly oblivious Kirk on the other side of the room. | comments: Leave a comment |
| Sandwich: A Trilogy by elfsausage, geeky_ramblings, madeyemax, nix_this, and calembours Fandom: Star Trek AOS Character/Pairing: McCoy/Pike/Scotty Rating/Warning(s): Explicit, Wheelchair sex Wordcount: 24 minute mix, 5,400 word fic, 1:45 minute vid Genre: Friendship, Poly, Smut Summary: No, Scotty, a panini is not the type of sandwich Pike needs right now. Notes: One of the flat out funniest pieces to come out of st_respect. More songs about sandwiches than you can shake a baguette at - but you won't, because you won't view baguettes the same way after you view the vid. Or, erm, sausage either. Or zucchini. Perhaps you're sensing a theme here? And then the fic manages to not only keep you laughing all the way through, but there's some completely awesome hot porn squeezed in there between the funny. | comments: Leave a comment |
| Perfect In My Mind by medie and winterover Fandom: Star Trek AOS, Star Trek TOS Character/Pairing: Chapel Prime/Spock Prime Rating/Warning(s): General Wordcount: ~4,600 and two pieces of art Genre: Crossover (of sorts), romance, friendship Summary: Christine finds herself thrown into a new universe. But she isn't alone. Notes: Another great one from the st_respect triathlon challenge. TOS Chapel's inner thoughts just completely blew me away, and the slow development of her relationship with Spock Prime is gently moving. And the piece of art at the end is simply beautiful. | comments: Leave a comment |

| Born This Way by zeixx, ladymac111, katmarajade, joyeuses, and everythingshiny Fandom: Star Trek AOS Character/Pairing: Chapel/Gaila, Gaila/Romulan Commander, Gaila/Rand, Gaila/Uhura, Gaila/Kirk, Gaila/Scotty, Cupcake/Gaila, Gaila/Sulu, Gaila/Spock/Uhura, Gaila/T'Pring, also features Gaila's mother Rating/Warning(s): Mature Wordcount: Collection of 11 drabbles with a total of ~5000 words, 2 vids, fanart, manip, and handcrafted cross-stitching. Genre: Character study, Enterprise fic Summary: My mama told me when I was young, we are all born superstars... Notes: The st_respect triathlon challenge produced some great mixed-media works, and this was one of my favorites. The drabbles are wonderful imaging of some of ST characters who don't get much attention (Cupcake, in particular, was lovely), and the art is gorgeous. Really, though, it's the vid & song pic that makes this entry - just perfectly chosen. | comments: Leave a comment |
| Outride the Sun by caitri Fandom: Star Trek AOS, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Character/Pairing: Kirk/McCoy, Spock/Uhura, Chekov/Sulu Rating/Warning(s): Explicit Wordcount: 56,000 Genre: Crossover, Romance, supernatural AU Summary: Being seventeen sucks. So does moving to a Hellmouth, discovering the girl of your dreams is a Slayer and that you just might be in love with a vampire. Or, How Leonard McCoy Got a Stake, Got a Life, and Got Laid. A BTVS/Trek XI mash-up/crossover. Notes: You don't have to have ever seen BtVS to enjoy this fusion because everyone here is awesome and kick-ass and totally in-character, and, hey? Jim Kirk as a hot vampire who takes a shine to oh-so-perfectly-grumpy high schooler Bones. But if you have watched much Buffy, then this fic takes it up a notch with tons of hilarious nods to the show. | comments: Leave a comment |
| This Is Growing Up by dsudis Fandom: Star Trek AOS Character/Pairing: Gen: McCoy and Chekov Rating/Warning(s): General Wordcount: 1,300 Genre: Missing scene Summary: "So you lost one today." Notes: This is a complete headcanon for me, this scene between Dr. McCoy and Chekov in the transporter room. | comments: Leave a comment |
| The name of this story is your name by beccatoria Fandom: Battlestar Galactica Character/Pairing: Caprica Six-centric, Caprica/Gaius Rating/Warning(s): Mature Wordcount: 6,000 Genre: Post-finale Summary: What if Caprica didn't actually die. Ever. Notes: This is beautifully lyrical, achingly heartbreaking, and a very intimate look at Caprica Six. Excerpt: "Psyche," Sharon says. "She was my great-granddaughter. We never taught her to read. First time we never even tried."
"John," you say. John was beautiful. He looked like Gaius. He was smart and remembered every poisonous herb within two-hundred kilometres. When you told him the sun was a star, that it was burning gas, he stared at you, awe-struck, and believed it.
John was illiterate. You realise, you don't regret that. There was nothing to write on, anyway.
John died four hundred years ago. | comments: Leave a comment |
| Honestly, It Happened Exactly Like That by fringedweller Fandom: Star Trek AOS Character/Pairing: Kirk/Rand Rating/Warning(s): Explicit Wordcount: 7,000 Genre: Backstory, Enterprise fic Summary: How Jim Kirk and Janice Rand had sex, got married and fell in love. Yes, in that order. No, they're not joking. Notes: Kirk/Rand befuddled me for a long time - I couldn't get a handle on their dynamic as a pair, or, really, much of an idea of how Janice Rand could function in a modern Star Trek. This fic is a great intro to the pairing, imo - it's got a take-no-prisoners, strong, sexy Rand and an adorable Kirk. (Disclaimer: I was on Team Kirk/Rand for st_respect) | comments: Leave a comment |
| (We Go Together) Like Ion Storms and Transporter Malfunctions by nix_this Fandom: Star Trek AOS Character/Pairing: Kirk/Scotty Rating/Warning(s): Explicit Wordcount: 7,500 Genre: Mission gone wrong, first time, humor Summary: Written for st_respect Event 2. Prompt: Origin Story. (Winner of the prestigious Best Technical (Journal) Merit award!) He's Montgomery Scott: pioneer of transwarp beaming and the first man to ride his captain like a toboggan down the side of a crater. Another day, another ice planet. Right, Scotty? Notes: I am totally serious when I say that this is the best damn Scotty voice I have ever read. This is sheer brilliance - Scotty is sweet and engineery and his Scottish cursing makes my heart flutter madly. | comments: Leave a comment |
| Sound Waves by catty_the_spy Fandom: Star Trek AOS Character/Pairing: McCoy/Spock Rating/Warning(s): Mature, character death Wordcount: 8,700 Genre: AU, first time, apocalypse Summary: Everyone who ever called him Leonard is dead; he's just "Doctor" now. Written for the ST_Olympics and the treck_crackbingo prompt "end of the world as we know it". Notes: This is a starkly drawn AU - with a very unique spin on rearranging the events of the movie. McCoy and Spock work wonderfully here. | comments: Leave a comment |
| | Bad Transcript Parody by the bblog Fandom: Star Trek AOS Character/Pairing: None Rating/Warning(s): Mature Wordcount: 2,500 Genre: meta, crack Summary: Excerpt: The SUN shines through the viewscreen, which is apparently an actual window opening out onto space. DIRECTOR JJ ABRAMS takes this opportunity to inflict some massively overdone lens flare on the AUDIENCE. Notes: I loved the movie. If you're reading this review, you probably loved the movie too. But, well, we can love something while admitting to certain faults, right? Even if we can headcanon our way out of some of the plot holes... Anyways, my favorite bit: BRUCE GREENWOOD CHRIS, I want you and JOHN CHO, as well as a literal redshirt, to go down and blow up that drill thing. ZACHARY QUINTO Rather than shoot it with a torpedo or something, we have to risk the lives of the first officer, the pilot, and the chief engineer? CHRIS PINE I hope I get to dangle from something by my fingertips! | comments: Leave a comment |
| Vegan Cupcakes for All (Or Whatever) by medea_fic Fandom: RPF - Pinto Character/Pairing: Pine/Qunito Rating/Warning(s): Explicit. Warning - Zach being an asshole in parts. Wordcount: 15,000 Genre: AU. Is food porn a genre? Summary: AU. Chris is a five star chef who gets hired to cater for (famous actor) Zachary Quinto's birthday bash. They meet and suddenly, Chris is always Zach's go-to choice for food for every little occasion… Chris really doesn't mind answering the calls for 'Chinese-inspired' fajitas at four in the morning, either... Notes: Look at that title and tell me you don't want to read this. Food porn plus regular porn plus Zach being all bitchy. And cupcakes. C'mon now. | comments: Leave a comment |
| March 22, 2233 by what_alchemy Fandom: Star Trek AOS Character/Pairing: Gen: Leonard McCoy Rating/Warning(s): General Wordcount: 1,500 Genre: backstory, kidfic Summary: Leonard McCoy is six and one-sixth years old when the Kelvin makes the newsfeeds. Notes: This is a wonderful mood piece - Leonard is exactly perfect for both a boy of six and the man he'll eventually become. | comments: Leave a comment |
| The Most Precious Thing by soloproject Fandom: Star Trek AOS Character/Pairing: Chekov/Sulu Rating/Warning(s): Mature, some portrayal of underaged drinking and sex. Wordcount: 20,000 Genre: backstory, Academyfic, missing scenes Summary: Even if all their lives turn out to be an alternate reality, this is how Pavel Chekov grows up. Notes: This is one of the most wonderful characterizations of Chekov that I have ever read - and the thought put into his background shows so clearly here. A beautiful Bildungsroman. And the Chekov/Sulu is sweet and wonderful as well. | comments: Leave a comment |
| Welcome Interrogator by blcwriter Fandom: Star Trek AOS Character/Pairing: Kirk/Uhura Rating/Warning(s): Explicit Wordcount: 3,400 Genre: Sex Pollen (fuck or die variety), SMUT, first time Summary: Prompt: "Kirk's well aware he's the last guy on earth Uhura would be interested in being with. That's why when he's drugged and needs to literally fuck someone or die and she's the only one around, he curls up and gets ready to die. She isn't having any of that." Notes: This fic is the one that will convince you that this pairing could both work and be smoking hot like wow. At first I was a bit worried about the fuck-or-die scenario, because, uh, really unrealistic, even for Star Trek, you know? But there's no need to be because it's handled in a really talented manner and Kirk & Uhura just fit so well here in their mix of insecurity and confidence. | comments: Leave a comment |
| A Life More Ordinary by seperis Fandom: Smallville Character/Pairing: Clark/Lex Rating/Warning(s): Mature Wordcount: 4,000 Genre: first time, early seasons fic, fluff-ish Summary: It wasn't sudden, and Lex didn't know it was happening until it had. And then he did. Notes: Disclaimer: I entered fandom through Smallville, so fic set in this universe - especially fics written in the early seasons when the Clex shipping was strong - will always hold a place in my heart. But I'd recommend this story to anyone, whether you've watched an episode of Smallville or not, because it is a wonderful little portrayal of both love in general and most everything great about these two characters | comments: Leave a comment |
| Incredistory by silksieve Fandom: The Incredibles Character/Pairing: Gen: Violet Parr, Dash Parr, Jack-Jack Parr, Helen Parr Rating/Warning(s): General Wordcount: 1,700 Genre: Character development, growing up, siblings, world-building Summary: It's Jack's 18th birthday, and his siblings come home to celebrate. Notes: This is a supersweet fic about three supersiblings - who squabble just like us normal people. ;-) The characterizations are really adorable here, as are the little details that help build this universe. | comments: Leave a comment |

| Zenith by rainbowstrlght
Fandom: Star Trek AOS, fusion with Twilight (sorta)
Character/Pairing: Kirk/Spock, background Gaila/McCoy, Chekov/Sulu, Scotty/Uhura, Pike/Number One
Rating/Warning(s): Mature
Wordcount: 75,000
Genre: High School AU, Fusion, humor
Summary: When Winona Kirk finds love with the small-town sheriff of Riverside, Jim is uprooted for his high school senior year to the middle of nowhere. But once Jim arrives, he gets wrapped up in the local mystery of a series of crop circles, along with finding himself drawn to a peculiar and enigmatic group of kids - especially one in particular, named Spock. Danger ensues, as Kirk unravels the meaning behind the crop circles, and why Spock and his family live in Riverside.
Notes: Come live inside teenage Jim Kirk's head as he tries to figure out the mysteries of middle America's cornfields and an odd kid at his high school who always wears a skullcap. Yes, it's sort of a cracky premise, but the mystery keeps the pages turning, and the characterizations are wonderful. Don't let the Twilight fusion premise scare you off, because this fic is rather awesome. Also, the fanmix, Let's Talk About Spaceships by inkstain is amazing, as is the fanart by lamasart, so be sure to check out those too. | comments: Leave a comment |
